Study after study and plain ol’ common sense tells you it’s impossible to have a well-functioning healthcare system without proper primary care. We’re spending crazy amounts of time and money building products, clinics, etc that are direct consequence of our decimated primary care in the U.S. A short list of band-aids: stand/alone telehealth cos, urgent care, retail clinics, freestanding ERs, care navigation firms, various tech “solutions” for coordinating care, etc. — all largely unnecessary if proper primary care is in place. If you a forward-looking benefits pro and you aren’t doing everything possible to rebuild primary care in your community, you’re missing the boat. The “good news” is PCPs in FFS are generally miserable. Great benefits pros are building demand across multiple employers to help open DPC practices.
